Driving in the Northern Territory gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore at your own pace. The Northern Territory\'s roads take you past some of the most memorable scenery Australia has to offer.

Northern Territory roads are made up of sealed, unsealed and 4x4 routes. 95% of major tourist spots, including Darwin, Kakadu National Park, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, are accessible by sealed roads. Unless you want to go off road, driving can be enjoyed in a standard family car.

Northern Territory is big. To drive from Darwin to Alice Springs involves a journey of 2 days. The state is 1600 kilometres north-south and 950 kilometres east-west. Those are straight line map distances, actual road distances are considerably further.

Darwin is a tropical city. It has a relaxed outdoor lifestyle and enjoys warm weather all year round. Darwin is best done by driving . The city can also be circumnavigated and provides great views over the harbour. Darwin is one of the Territory\'s major gateways, and is the launchpad for travel to other northerly destinations Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks, remote and mysterious Arnhem Land, or Katherine - home to the world-famous gorge.

Kakadu and Uluru

Ayers Rock is the heart of Australia and is a big contrast to the Top End of the Northern Territory. It has a wide range of hotels, resorts or simply sleeping under the stars. The Northern Territory. It is around 1800 kms from top to bottom of the Northern Territory and will take 7 to 10 days, be sure to leave plenty of time to explore some of the sights along the way.

Alice Springs is the great out back and a gateway to the Territory. It\'s a great drivind destination. Visitors can explore Tennant Creek, MacDonnell Ranges, or visit Australia\'s most recognisable icon - Uluru (Ayers Rock).

The drive area between the patchwork of sprawling cattle stations is fantastic there are also country towns and more than 100 national parks and reserves.

The Top End of Australia\'s Northern Territory is the most genuine outback regions where you can fully experience the awesome grandeur of nature first hand. The Top End is lush, green and tropical or you can drive to the total contrast of the harsh Red Centre.

Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is one of the Nation\'s most prized cultural and ecological treasures. Almost 20,000 square kilometres in size the park is a breath taking drive almost three hours east from Darwin.
